Day 1: Lima – Bohemian Welcome in Barranco
The itinerary begins with your vibrant arrival in Lima, where you will be personally met at Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM) and transferred to your hotel in the captivating Barranco district. Take a moment to soak in the atmosphere, because the adventure is about to begin.
The most significant part of the day is the meeting with your Tour Leader, the person who will not only guide the logistics but also be your exploration companion. This meeting is crucial: it is where that special connection and shared enthusiasm for the Andes will be born.
As the afternoon turns to evening, the excitement overflows into a guided immersion through Barranco. You will walk through its streets full of art, murals, legends, and colonial mansions, experiencing the true bohemian spirit of Lima. Crossing the iconic Bridge of Sighs (Puente de los Suspiros) is the perfect prelude.
Finally, the magic of this first day is sealed by sharing your first dinner together. It will be an intimate and memorable moment, where laughter and first anecdotes will flow freely, solidifying that essential connection before taking the morning flight that will lead you to the heart of the imposing Cordillera Blanca. The adventure in Huaraz is already in the air!
Day 2: Arrival in Huaraz: Vital Acclimatization
The adventure takes an exciting turn today as we say goodbye to the coast. Leaving Lima behind, we will head to the airport (LIM) to take the spectacular flight that launches us directly toward the majesty of the Cordillera Blanca.
After a quick landing at Anta airport (ATA), your Tour Leader will coordinate the immediate transfer to our accommodation in Huaraz (3,052 Meters above sea level) .
The key to this day is patience and rest: the afternoon is strictly dedicated to acclimatization. After a light lunch, we will take our first mountain steps with a very gentle walk through the upper part of the city. This stroll is not about effort, but about allowing our bodies to breathe slowly and adjust to the altitude, while also offering the first panoramic views of the snow-capped peaks. This quiet contact with the Andean atmosphere is essential to ensure you enjoy the great treks that await us.
We close the day with a relaxed dinner, with our minds fixed on the mountains already in sight.
True Hikers:
Stop dreaming about adventure and start living it! We achieved the unthinkable: fusing the two most epic and dream-worthy routes in the world into a single 16-day expedition, creating the ultimate journey for trekking lovers.
First, you will conquer the Huayhuash Mountain Range, officially recognized as the best trekking route in the world. You will ascend over 5,000 meters, where you will be rewarded with panoramic views of immense snow-capped peaks, dramatic valleys, and turquoise lagoons seen only in postcards.
Then, the change of scenery is breathtakingly fascinating: you will immerse yourself in the Inca Trail, the cultural gem of South America, an ancestral legacy and a true privilege that culminates your effort with the vision of the epic sunrise over the Lost City, Machu Picchu, the Inca sanctuary surrounded by the exuberant high jungle, from the iconic Sun Gate (Inti Punku).
This is an adventure that not only tests your spirit but also gives you the unparalleled satisfaction of having conquered two myths of mountaineering and history. It's time to write your own legend in the heart of Peru.
Day 3: Start of the Huayhuash Trek – From Huaraz to Mitucocha Lagoon
Today is the day that marks the true beginning of the expedition. The day starts early, full of excitement, as our transport picks us up at the hotel in Huaraz. We will embark on an essential scenic drive to the town of Llamac (approximately 4 hours). This is the official starting point of our trek and will be our last civilized stop for a while.
Once in Llamac (3,300 m.a.s.l.) , we will meet our support team (arrieros and llamas/mules) and prepare for the first stage of the trek. We will begin our ascent toward the beautiful,Mitucocha Lagoon (4,270 m.a.s.l.). This day's trek is crucial for final acclimatization, offering spectacular views of the first snow-capped peaks of Huayhuash.
After about 4 to 5 hours of hiking, we will arrive at our first camp in Mitucocha. Here, under the imposing presence of the Jirishanca mountain, we will have our first camping experience and a hot dinner prepared by the team. Spending the night at over 4,200 meters will be an unforgettable experience that will cement the group's connection with the grandeur of the mountain.
Day 4: The Heart of Huayhuash – From Mitucocha to Carhuacocha
Today is a day of total immersion in the beauty of Huayhuash. We will wake up early at our first camp in Mitucocha (4,270 m.a.s.l.) for a comforting breakfast, ready to face a key day of trekking.
The day's challenge is crossing the first high pass: the Cacananpunta Pass (4,750 m.a.s.l.). The ascent is constant but gradual. Once at the summit, the effort is immediately rewarded with a stunning panoramic view of the Cordillera, including giant peaks like Rondoy and Ninashanca.
From the pass, we will begin a long and beautiful descent that will take us to our next destination. The walk will grant us constant views of the alpine landscape until we reach the Carhuacocha campsite (4,138 m.a.s.l.). This site is considered one of the most beautiful on the entire route, as it is strategically located in front of a turquoise lagoon that majestically reflects the imposing snow-capped peaks of Jirishanca, Yerupajá, and Siula Grande (famous from the film Touching the Void).
Setting up camp next to Carhuacocha Lagoon is the perfect end to a day of great effort and visual rewards, solidifying the epic Huayhuash experience.
Day 5: The Jewel of Huayhuash
From Carhuacocha to Huayhuash Camp
The sun will surprise us with what many consider the most beautiful sunrise of the entire trek, with the snow-capped peaks reflecting in the Carhuacocha Lagoon. Today, one of the most spectacular stages awaits us.
We will depart from the Carhuacocha campsite (4,138 m.a.s.l.) and begin an unforgettable ascent toward the **Carhuac Pass (4,650 m.a.s.l.). Today's hike is a constant reward: as we gain altitude, we will witness astonishing frontal views of Yerupajá (Peru's second-highest peak) and Siula Grande, famous for the incredible survival story narrated in the book and film Touching the Void. We will have the opportunity to pass by three intense blue lagoons.
Once we cross the pass, we will begin the descent southward, venturing deeper into the circuit. The hike will conclude at the Huayhuash camp (4,300 m.a.s.l.), a strategic point from which we can admire the Trapecio peak and prepare for the next stage of our epic Andean journey.
Day 6: Conquering the Trapecio
From Huayhuash to Elefante Camp
We leave behind the Huayhuash camp (4,300 m.a.s.l.) to face a key day of ascent. Today, the objective is to cross the Portachuelo de Huayhuash Pass (4,750 m.a.s.l.), which offers a privileged and close view of the Trapecio peak.
The morning hike is a steady and challenging ascent towards this high pass. Upon reaching the summit, the effort is entirely rewarded with an impressive panoramic view of the surrounding group of snow-capped peaks. It is a peak moment for photography and for appreciating the immensity of the Cordillera.
From the pass, we will begin a long descent through an open valley that will take us directly to our destination: the Elefante camp. This campsite is a strategic and beautiful spot, perfect for recovering energy after a high-altitude day and preparing to continue our epic Huayhuash circuit.
Day 7: The Summit and the Valley – From Elefante Camp to Huallapa Village.
Today marks the end of the first and highest section of the Huayhuash circuit. We will depart from the Elefante/Viconga camp (4,400 m.a.s.l.) to face a crucial day of descent.
The morning begins with a final, challenging ascent toward the Punta Cuyoc Pass (5,000 m.a.s.l.), the highest point of the entire trek. Conquering over 5,000 meters is thrilling, and the final views of the great snow-capped peaks are unforgettable. Furthermore, as we conquer the pass, we will witness a stunning turquoise lagoon that dramatically contrasts with the high-mountain landscape.
After conquering the pass, we will begin a long and welcome descent. The walk will take us toward a lower valley, through landscapes that become greener, until we meet people again. Finally, we will arrive at the picturesque village of Huallapa (3,500 m.a.s.l.) The best part of the day is that, after several nights under the stars, today we will sleep in a local hotel! The well-deserved rest in a bed and a hot shower, albeit with basic amenities, will be the perfect ending to celebrate the epic high-mountain journey.
Day 8: Triumphant Return to Lima and Celebration
The final day of our Huayhuash expedition begins with a super early wake-up in the town of Huallapa. We will get ready quickly, as the priority is to start the long journey back to the capital as soon as possible.
The first stage of our trip is the transfer from Huallapa via private transport. This vehicle will efficiently take us through the most remote stretch of road to a strategic point where we will make the connection.
Next, we will transition to public transportation (generally a semi-sleeper or sleeper bus service), which will transport us directly back to Lima. This journey is long (approximately 7 to 9 hours), offering time for rest and reflection on the incredible feat accomplished in the Cordillera.
Upon arrival in Lima, we will be transferred to our comfortable hotel, where you can rest deeply and enjoy a luxury shower, marking the definitive end of the mountain adventure. To conclude with a flourish, the Tour Leader will organize an optional celebratory dinner. It will be the perfect moment to share the most memorable stories from the trek, celebrate the group's connection, and toast to having conquered the majestic Huayhuash Mountain Range.
Day 9: Landing in the Land of the Incas – Your Free Day to Connect with Cusco
Early in the morning in Lima, we will head to the airport to catch our flight to the historic city of Cusco, the ancient capital of the Inca Empire.
Upon landing in the Andean highlands, we will take a moment to acclimatize before embarking on a short orientation walk. This introductory stroll will help us become familiar with the charm of Cusco's historic center, its cobblestone streets, vibrant squares, and the striking architecture that fuses Inca foundations with colonial influence.
After this initial immersion, the rest of the day is yours to explore Cusco at your own pace. Your Tour Leader will be happy to offer personalized tips and suggestions to help you make the most of your free time. You can choose to get lost in the labyrinth of alleys, visit colorful craft markets, marvel at the majesty of the Plaza de Armas and the Cathedral, or perhaps venture into hidden gems like the artistic San Blas neighborhood and its numerous workshops.
This day is for you to absorb the unique energy of Cusco and prepare for the wonders that await you in the coming days in this fascinating region.
Day 10: Weaving Ties and Forging Dreams with Andean Communities
Today, after a nutritious breakfast in Cusco, we will embark on a journey that goes beyond conventional tourism, one that immerses us in the authenticity of Andean communities with deeply rooted ancestral traditions.
Our first stop is Ccacacollo, a vibrant Andean village led and organized by entrepreneurial women. They will give us a warm welcome and proudly share their collective work in the ancestral textile art, passed down from generation to generation. We will witness their incredible skill in transforming natural fibers into beautiful creations, a tradition that not only preserves cultural identity but also drives the development and well-being of their community.
We will then continue to Cuyo Chico, where we will participate in an ancient pottery-making experience alongside local artisans. As we shape our own clay pieces, we will connect directly with a craft rich in cultural significance and symbolic meaning within the Andean worldview.
After sharing a lunch full of authentic flavors, we will explore the enigmatic agricultural terraces of Moray, a living testament to the Incas' agricultural wisdom and their deep connection to the earth.
At the end of this enriching day, we will spend the night in Ollantaytambo, recharging our energy for the journey that awaits us.

After meeting your dedicated team of porters and cooks and passing the first checkpoint, you will feel the excitement as you cross the Urubamba River and begin a gentle hike, designed as a perfect warm-up for your muscles and your acclimatization. This initial, relatively flat stretch will reward you with majestic views of the La Verónica peak as you explore the fascinating archaeological site of Llactapata.
Finally, you will conclude this introductory day of discovery by arriving at Huayllabamba (3,000 m.a.s.l.), the last corner of civilization before fully immersing yourself in the Andean heights, where the camp awaits you with a well-deserved dinner and the necessary rest for tomorrow's great challenge.
Day 13: The Inca Garden: The Millennial Descent to Wiñaywayna City
Get ready for the most culturally enriching day, a total immersion in Inca architectural mastery! The day takes you to ascend the last and third pass (Phuyupatamarca Pass, 3,700) a transition that introduces you to the magical cloud forest ecosystem, dotted with orchids and wildlife.

The excitement is palpable as you wake up in the darkness of the early morning (around 4:00 AM), ready for the final stretch that will crown your effort.
After passing the last checkpoint, you will begin the most memorable hike of your life: a relatively flat two-hour trail through the dense jungle that will lead you directly to Inti Punku (The Sun Gate). Upon arrival, you will witness the climax of your adventure: the first and unforgettable panoramic view of the Lost Citadel, Machu Picchu, bathed in the first light of dawn.
After soaking up this magical moment, you will descend to the archaeological marvel for a two-hour guided tour that will reveal the secrets of this Inca sanctuary. With the mission accomplished, the group will gather to share a well-deserved celebratory lunch in Aguas Calientes, toasting the conquest of the Inca Trail.

In the afternoon, we invite you to reconnect with the city's local life through an optional walking tour that will take us to explore the vibrant market and historic streets, or you can opt for free exploration, with personalized suggestions from your Tour Leader.
